With so many hybrid options on the market, how does one choose? Avondale Toyota understands this dilemma can be quite daunting. Especially considering each automaker seems to be pushing its gas-electric offering even harder than the next. Fortunately, we have an easy solution for you. Simply look to the miles per gallon. That's where hybrid models truly show what they've got after all.

In order to aid you in that task, we'd like to share the fuel-economy estimates for the Toyota Prius Plug-In hybrid. These numbers are fresh from the company's mouth and are overwhelmingly impressive. Beating out even the hottest contenders, such as the Volt, the plug-in Prius is slated to achieve at least 50 miles per gallon in solely-hybrid mode and an incredible 95-mpg-e rating when its lithium-ion battery pack is frequently charged.

Now, if any Prius enthusiasts out there are scratching their heads in confusion at these numbers, we have a good idea why. Back in September 2011, Toyota officials reported that the Prius Plug-In would get only 49 mpg in hybrid and 87 mpg-e with the fully-charged battery. Well, after conducting further tests on the battery pack and additional control programs, the automaker changed its mind. And boy are we glad it did!

While an official fuel-economy rating by the Environmental Protection Agency won't come for another couple weeks, we believe the company's inklings are right on target. Bob Carter, Group Vice President of Toyota U.S. sales, says, "It's still an estimate, but we are confident it's going to be 95."1
