As part of the lead-up to this year's Tokyo Motor Show which will begin in just a few days, Toyota has announced that it will be debuting a production-ready version of its hydrogen-fuel cell vehicle.

This is absolutely incredible news. Several automakers have come out with their own hydrogen powered prototypes in the past, but never before has a company had a model that was ready to go to the production lines. Here at Avaondale Toyota Scion, we are very proud to say that Toyota is the first.

The technology to build such a vehicle has existed for some time, but so far there has been no incentive. Without a robust hydrogen refueling infrastructure, it would be a tough sell to consumers. Thanks to efforts by Toyota and other Japanese automakers, that island nation is slowly building more and more of these refueling facilities which means sales of this new Toyota model will likely be limited.

This new hydrogen powered vehicle is ready to be mass-produced and to make that happen Toyota engineers had to create an inexpensive way to convert hydrogen into electricity. In the end they settled on using two high-pressure storage tanks that can be refilled in as little as three minutes.

We are dying to learn more about this new Hydrogen car, and we will be sure to publish all the latest news right here on our blog. Since it appears that this type of drivetrain won't be available statside for a few more years, we still encourage you to visit us at the Avondale Toyota Scion showroom to check out our lineup of new Toyota vehicles. Speak with our friendly staff and even take one of our cars out for a test drive. We are located at 10005 West Papago Fwy Avondale, AZ.
