2024 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2024 Honda CR-V

2024 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2024 Honda CR-V
The Toyota RAV4 was first introduced in 1994, making it the first vehicle to combine the handsome appearance and versatility of an SUV in a lightweight, unibody frame. The Honda CR-V was introduced three years later in 1997, so it got off to a late start and it's been trying to keep up with the Toyota RAV4 ever since. The RAV4 has been the most popular SUV in the country for 20 years and the 2024 model is now available at our dealership. Both vehicles have significant strengths so let's compare the two and see why the RAV4 is more popular and why you'll be better off getting this new Toyota SUV at Avondale Toyota in Avondale, AZ.
Comparing performance
The Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force inline 4-cylinder engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing that generates 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That's more capability than you'll find in the Honda CR-V with a 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that creates only 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. The RAV4 operates with a Direct Shift 8-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Meawhile, the Honda CR-V makes you get by with a continuously variable transmission, a system that produces an undesirable droning sensation you won't have to worry about with the RAV4's automatic.
Comparing trim levels
The 2024 Toyota RAV4 menu gives Phoenix and Tempe buyers more choices than the CR-V offers. A good example is Toyota's TRD off-road model that comes with all-terrain tires and a specialized TRD-tuned suspension and Dynamic Torque Vectoring all-wheel drive. In fact, the Toyota RAV4 gives you seven different models to choose from including a mid-range XLE Premium that includes desirable features like 19-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a power liftgate. Unfortunately for Honda, the CR-V doesn't offer an off-road option and gives you only three trims to choose from. In addition, the Toyota RAV4 has a lower initial starting price at the base level.

Comparing fuel economy
Both the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V give you excellent fuel efficiency but the RAV4 gives you the edge regardless of the drive system you choose. The 2024 RAV-4 with front-wheel drive gives you estimated fuel economy ratings of 28 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on Glendale and Peoria highways. The Honda CR-V with two-wheel drive also provides 28 MPG in the city but only 34 MPG on the highway. The RAV4 with all-wheel drive delivers 27 MPG In the city and 33 MPG on on the highway vs. the CR-V with 27 MPG in the city but only 32 MPG on the highway.
Comparing technology
Lower trim levels in the Toyota RAV4 have an 8-inch touch screen and a six-speaker sound system. Meanwhile, the entry-level Honda CR-V starts with a smaller 7-inch touch screen and a sound system with only four speakers so Toyota wins that competition. The RAV4 also performs better at higher trim levels with an available 11-speaker premium audio system and a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen while the Honda CR-V offers only an available 9-inch touch screen and an eight-speaker audio system.
Both the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V offer a wireless smartphone charging system at higher trim levels. The RAV4 base trim comes with a 12 volt/120-watt power outlet and three standard USB ports and every other trim has a 12-volt/120-watt outlet in the front storage tray, another one in the cargo area and five USB ports. The Honda CR-V offers less of this kind of technology, giving you only a standard USB smartphone and audio interface on the front console and a 12-volt power outlet along with a single USB-C charging port at higher trim levels.
